An Enugu Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday
sentenced one Chioma Onwubiko, 39, of
Umualor Nenwe, Ani Nri Local Government
Area, to seven years imprisonment for child
theft.
The police prosecutor, Mr. Peter Eze, told the
court that the matter was reported at the
Central Police Station, Enugu, on February 27,
2013.
He said Onwubiko stole a three year-old boy,
Chimobi Anya, from his parents.
Eze also told the court that the accused was
not a first time offender, insisting that she had
perpetrated the act in the past.
He said the offence was punishable under
Section 321(a) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 30,
Vol. II, Laws of Enugu State of Nigeria, 2004.
Onwubiko pleaded guilty and begged the court
to temper justice with mercy.
The Magistrate, Hon. Martha Onuorah, said the
court would temper justice with mercy as the
accused had begged for pardon.
Hon. Onuorah then sentenced Onwubiko seven
years imprisonment.
