The Special Adviser to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, has said that President Buhari hates stealing with passion and that a confirmed thief can never be President Buhari's friend no matter who the person is.

 

Adesina said this in an article he posted on his Facebook page. In the piece, Adesina emphasized why the President demanded a forensic investigation into the financial activities at the Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC.

 

''There’s one thing President Muhammadu Buhari hates with a passion. Grand larceny. Expropriation and purloining. Once it’s confirmed that you are filching from the public purse, you can never be his friend, no matter who you are. So he had to bring to a halt the gravy train that the NDDC had become over the years. And no stampede, no rout or panic. The house cleaning must be done, and done well. Thorough.

In the Niger Delta, you see plenty signboards, but little or no projects. In other words, people collect contracts, erect signboards announcing the project, but the job never gets done. And the contractors get paid.

What to do? A forensic audit was necessary. Some powerful forces mounted robust resistance, but they didn’t reckon with the iron will of the President. The audit was done, and report submitted.''

 

Adesina said he hopes that in 2023, Nigerians will elect a Leader that will move the country forward.

 

''As 2023 approaches, I pray that Nigerians would consolidate on honest leadership by electing somebody who can move us forward in probity and accountability. Buhari has shown us the way, may we never veer off the path again. Amen.

There has been strident clamor for a composition of the Board of the NDDC. It is inexorable that it would come, but it should never be the business as usual we experienced in the past. Honest service to the people must be the watchword. That is what President Buhari has in mind, and that is what we should get. Order is better than speed, and we will get there.'' he said

After a brief stint in Nigeria, he relocated to Benin. And Yes, she believed every single thing.

It gets even more hilarious. The man professed his love in a gushing email that referred to her as his wife 'Mrs Olsen' which she excitedly accepted. Days later, he began his financial extractions and 'Mrs Olsen' who even sold her apartment worth $550, 000 has sent him $1.4 million in total for hotel bills, calling cards, lawyers, an expired visa, stolen credit cards, and bail.

She however indirectly admits her stupidity by saying although when she first started talking to him, he sounded Italian, now his accent has changed. But she believes he probably adapted to where he is hence the change in tone and she still believes in his love. Someone better shake that woman from her delusion. Hilarious!

Teen girl burnt to death after she was thought to be a suicide bomber

A teenage girl was burnt to death today in Bauchi after she was suspected to be a member of Boko Haram and a possible suicide bomber.

According to reports, the young lady had refused security men stationed at the entrance of the Muda Lawal market in Bauchi state to screen her with metal detectors. This raised suspicion among the market men and women who then forcefully raised the Hijab she was wearing and discovered two bottles tied around her waist. The market men and women immediately descended on her, beat her to death and then burnt her remains.


Confirming the incident, the state police spokesperson, Hatuna Mohammed in a statement said the sad incident happened at about 7am and that she'd been killed before police could come to her rescue

Plane carrying Briton with Ebola leaves Sierra Leone for Britain

TVC NEWS [FREETOWN]- A Royal Air Force plane carrying a British citizen who contracted the deadly Ebola virus in Sierra Leone took off from the airport in the capital Freetown on Sunday bound for Britain, a witness told our correspondent.
The Briton, believed to be a medical volunteer who had been working at an Ebola treatment site in the West African country, was brought by
ambulance to the grey Boeing C-17 cargo plane. The flight took off at around 1250 GMT, the witness said.

Boko Haram Leader Proclaims ‘Islamic Caliphate’ In Nigeria

Boko Haram’s leader said he has created an Islamic caliphate in a northeast Nigeria town seized by the insurgents earlier this month, in a video obtained by AFP on Sunday.
“Thanks be to Allah who gave victory to our brethren in (the town of) Gwoza and made it part of the Islamic caliphate,” Abubakar Shekau said in the 52-minute video.
He declared that Gwoza, in Borno state, now has “nothing to do with Nigeria”.
“By the grace of Allah we will not leave the town. We have come to stay,” said Shekau, who has been designated a global terrorist by the United States and sanctioned by the UN Security Council.
The United Nations humanitarian office (OCHA) earlier this month confirmed reports that Gwoza was under rebel control.
Boko Haram is also believed to be in control of other areas near Gwoza in southern Borno, as well as large swathes of territory in northern Borno and at least one town in neighbouring Yobe state.
Mapping the precise areas which have fallen into Islamist hands is nearly impossible.
There are few humanitarian workers on the ground in the northeast, travel is dangerous and the region, which has been under a state of emergency since May of last year, has poor mobile phone coverage.
Experts have described Boko Haram’s gains in recent weeks as unprecedented, saying the group was closer than ever to achieving its goal of carving out a strict Islamic state across northern Nigeria.
But many analysts believe the military has the capacity to reverse the insurgents’ advance.

1000 Clerics In Abuja To Reconcile Jonathan, Obasanjo

More than 1000 Bishops and Pastors from the Pentecostal fold on Sunday stormed the Ecumenical Center, Abuja to reconcile President Goodluck Jonathan and former President Olusegun Obasanjo, ahead of the 2015 general elections in the country, reports Vanguard.

The reconciliation prayer meeting however could not hold, as President Goodluck Jonathan was absent, as he was away in Germany on a private visit. Former President Obasanjo, was also absent and he was said to have been represented by his pastor.
There were divergent views on the invitation sent to the two leaders as some of the pastors claimed both President Jonathan and former President Obasanjo were formerly invited, some other members said that the President was not given formal invitation to attend but that he was aware of the meeting.
Some of the clerics told Vanguard that President Jonathan was represented at the prayer meeting by Venerable Obioma Onwuzurumba but that the members had wanted the two personalities to be present so that the reconciliation could be effective.
The Ministers of God however had intensive prayers against the recent outbreak of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), the insurgency in the North East occasioned by the Boko Haram sect and the abduction of Chibok girls in Borno State.

Bodies Of Ebola Victims Cremated In Lagos

Bodies of the four Nigerians, who died of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) have been cremated in line with World Health Organisation (WHO) requirements for disposal of such corpses.

The decision to cremate the bodies, it was gathered, may not be unconnected with the deadly nature of the Ebola Virus which is known to be easily transmissible from human to human, especially during handling of corpses of victims.
The body of the index (first) case, Patrick Sawyer was the first to be cremated on July 25, 2014.
A health official at the Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) of the Mainland Hospital, Lagos, who confirmed the development, said the Lagos State Government in following strict guidelines for disposal of the bodies, authorised cremation of all the bodies.
The official who pleaded anonymity said the decision to cremate all bodies was to ensure appropriate containment measures and guarantee proper handling of the bodies.
“All the bodies of those who died of Ebola from this centre have been cremated. None was allowed to undergo traditional burial because extreme care is being taken to prevent further infections,” the official noted.
The WHO in recommending that people who die from Ebola should be promptly and safely buried, notes that cremation, which is the application of high temperature to reduce bodies to basic chemical components (ashes), is ideal for safe disposal of bodies of such persons in order to minimise further transmission.

FG, Israel Assure Intending Pilgrims Of Safety

The Federal Government and its Israeli counterpart on Sunday assured this year’s intending ‘family pilgrims’ to Israel of their safety and welfare.

The assurances were given by officials of both countries while addressing the pilgrims at the inauguration of the 2014 `Family Pilgrimage’ at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The Chief of Staff to the President, Mr Jones Arogbofa, said the Federal Government was in touch with the authorities in Israel, stressing that there was no need to entertain any fear.
He said the Israeli government had demonstrated sufficient capacity to contain the crisis and has already assured the federal government of the safety of its citizens in the holy land.
According to Arogbofa, prayers and intense communion with God should pre-occupy the minds and schedule of the pilgrims while in the holy land, because their security would be taken care of.
He urged the pilgrims to be steadfast in their prayers for their leaders and for peace in their various families, in Nigeria and the entire world.
“This exercise provides you with the rare opportunity to commune with God, correct the challenges you face in your families and communities because our land is sick today and we need healing.
“I want each of you to see this family pilgrimage as an opportunity to bring Christ closer to your families, it is not a jamboree,’’ he said.
He lauded the efforts of the Nigeria Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC) for its creativity in making pilgrimage a household among the Christian community in the country.
In the same vein, Mr John-Kennedy Opara, the Executive Secretary of NCPC, urged the intending pilgrims not to entertain any fear, saying adequate security arrangement had been made for their well being in Israel.
He said officials of both countries have studied the situation on ground and are optimistic that the safety of the pilgrims would be guaranteed throughout their stay in Israel.
“We have made adequate arrangements for our pilgrims, everything is okay now, in fact I have the assurances of the Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria that all shall be well with our pilgrims.
“All I want to tell our pilgrims is not to be afraid, they should just obey all instructions given to them by the authorities in Israel,” he said. [Vanguard]

Gwoza: Governor Shettima Leaves Authenticity Of Boko Haram Video To Security Experts

Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima has expressed doubts over the reported declaration of Gwoza as a territory of the Islamic sect, Boko Haram.

He expressed doubts over the authenticity of the video where the sect leader Abubakar Shekau made the claim, but stated that the government was the activities of the security agencies fighting insurgency in the state.
“I cannot comment on the authenticity or otherwise of that video in question, I will leave that to security experts. I also cannot disclose measures being adopted by security agencies on whatever development in Gwoza or any part of Borno State but I can assure the good people of Borno State and other members of the public that the State Government is actively in touch and supporting security agencies deployed to Borno State in the counter insurgency efforts and insha Allah, the combined efforts will not be in vain.
“We are not just studying the situation with collaborative tact and urgency but indeed, appropriate measures are being taken by the right authorities. For now, I urge the good people of Borno State to remain calm and resolute in their support for security agencies, abiding faith and prayers.
“The security agencies, I am sure, are in the position to analyse the content of the said new video, compare with the facts on ground in Gwoza and brief the Nigerian public as they deem professionally appropriate, bearing in mind the National interest and patriotism as well as the overall safety of citizens.
“Let me use this opportunity to, while thanking members of the Nigerian and International media for their firm support for Borno people and its government since this insurgency crisis in 2009, make a strong appeal that we do not dramatise and sensationalise issues such as the one connected with Gwoza, so that we all do not fall for the objective of insurgents, which is to at all times, claim victory over our sovereign State, our rights to existence, our freedom and our liberty, as it is always their goal to create so much panic that would make anyone who doesn’t share their ideology feel unsafe and defeated.
“Even as those of us in the media work tirelessly to disseminate information in the discharge of important duties that aim to protect the fundamental rights of the public to know happenings within and around them, we must at this moment, more than ever before, do our jobs with patriotic support for our country and its security forces as well as our passion for humanity as against those that seek to send humanity into extinction. As disturbing as what is said to be the development is, I remain very optimistic that victory will never go the way of those that violently stand between fellow human beings and their divine rights to exist as God’s creatures on earth,” he said.

John McCafferty enters the Guinness book of record for the longest lasting heart transplant

A British man has entered the record books as the world’s longest-surviving heart transplant patient.

John McCafferty, 71, has surpassed the previous Guinness World Record of 30 years, 11 months and 10 days set by an American man who died in 2009.

Mr McCafferty was told he had five years to live when he underwent the life-saving operation at Harefield Hospital in Middlesex 31 years ago.

He says his record should give hope to others awaiting transplants.

Mr McCafferty, from Newport Pagnell in Buckinghamshire, said: “I want this world record to be an inspiration to anyone awaiting a heart transplant and to those who, like me, have been fortunate enough to have had one.

“My advice is always to be hopeful, to look ahead with a positive mind, and, of course, to follow the expert medical advice.”

Mr McCafferty received his new heart on 20 October 1982 in a procedure carried out by world-renowned surgeon Sir Magdi Yacoub.

He had been diagnosed, aged 39, with dilated cardiomyopathy – one of the most common causes of heart failure. It leads to scarring of the heart wall and damage to the muscle, which causes the heart to become weakened and enlarged, preventing it from pumping efficiently.

The first ever successful heart transplant operation was performed in South Africa in 1967 by Prof Christiaan Neethling Barnard and a team of 30 physicians at the Groote Schuur Hospital, Cape Town. The patient, Louis Washkansky, survived for 18 days with the new heart.

Nigeria now losing 40,000 barrels of crude daily

Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State on Thursday said the Federal Government had succeeded in bringing down the volume of crude oil being lost to thieves in the country to about 40,000 barrels from 100,000 daily.

Uduaghan said this in an interview with State House correspondents shortly after attending a meeting inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He said the reduction was as a result of some measures put in place by the government.

The governor expressed the belief that the figure would soon be further reduced.

He said, “Let me emphasise that the volume of crude oil theft is reducing. Again, I must explain that at a time, oil theft was at its peak; there was a shut-in of about 300,000 barrels of oil as a result of damage to two major pipelines; and at that time, between 80,000 and 100,000 barrels were being stolen.

“That was the time we took some measures to ensure that the quantity that is being stolen is reduced.

“Today, I can tell you that the crude that is being stolen is reduced to about 40,000 barrels per day. Those two pipelines are now functioning. So, the 300,000 that was shut in as a result of the damage to the pipelines have now been opened.”

Uduaghan added, “Stealing 40,000 barrels per day is still on the high side, but as we go further in putting a lot of measures in place, especially in the area of prosecution, I believe that the quantity that is being stolen will gradually reduce, if possible, come to zero level.

“Apart from prosecution, we are also talking of technology and monitoring to deal with oil theft.”

On the defection of some Peoples Democratic Party governors to the All Progressives Congress, Uduaghan said anything could happen in politics.

He said, “In politics, any person can take any position. So, you must be ready for anybody that is ready to take any position. Just as people are leaving the party, people are also coming to the party.

“The thing is that as a party, there is no doubt that we have challenges at the moment, and I think the President is taking initiatives to organise various meetings that will quickly deal with these issues.”

Jonathan makes move to accertain his stay on the seat by inaugurating solar power programme

The Federal Government on Thursday in Abuja commenced its Operation Light Up Rural Nigeria project.

The inauguration of the project, which was initially planned to be performed by President Goodluck Jonathan in Durumi, a suburb in Mpape area of Abuja on Thursday, was, however, postponed to Saturday.

Hundreds of residents, who thronged the venue, were left disappointed when it was announced that the President could not make it to the community for undisclosed reasons.

The Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, in an interview with our correspondent, stated that the solar power project would provide improved and less expensive lighting for rural dwellers.

He said the project would incorporate the installation of non-grid decentralised mini solar wind power generation plants that would be able to serve the electricity needs of the community

According to Nebo, the solar power project will provide a few hundred kilowatts, sufficient to light up homes and streets of communities in select local government areas in 16 states across the federation.

This, he said, would be in the short term of about six months, with a goal of lighting up most communities in the select local government areas by December this year.

The minister explained that it was almost impossible to extend the power grid to all rural areas in the country, adding, “This leaves a majority of Nigerians who live in the rural areas without access to electricity.”

“Providing access to electricity through alternative energy is a technology of necessity for Nigeria. As an alternative energy option, solar and wind power generation will be a practical alternative to supplementing electricity supply in Nigeria,” Nebo said.

The minister said the project was cost-effective in areas where electricity could not be supplied, especially in the rural, riverside and areas that were remote to the current power grid and energy sources such as waterfalls.

“This will curb urban migration, create full employment opportunities and reduce crime, which will translate into providing a conducive political environment in our nation’s polity,” Nebo said.

Lagos govt dumps 70 beggars and homeless people in Onitsha

The Lagos State Government yesterday Wednesday July 24th dumped over seventy people said to be beggars and homeless people in Onitsha.

The destitute were brought into the state around 3am yesterday and left them under the flyover at Upper Iweka Bridge after being detained in Lagos for months for begging, wandering and other minor offenses by the Lagos State Kick Against Indiscipline Officials. Many of the people dumped at the location said they were not even from Onitsha and didn't understand why they were dropped there. Some claimed they have family in Lagos and were picked up by KAI officials as they went to work.

Why Jonathan and His Wife Are After Me – Governor Amaechi Bares It All

Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi has finally opened up; he accused President Goodluck Jonathan of turning the PDP into a “one-man show” and of condoning “impunity and authoritarianism” in an effort to ensure his re-election in 2015 at all cost…

Amaechi, in an interview he granted the Financial Times of London, added that the President and his wife, Patience, were bent on removing him from office.

He traced his travails to the fear in the Presidency that whoever was in charge of Nigeria Governor’s Forum had the capacity to influence the presidential election in 2015.

The governor said, “There is this fear in the Presidential Villa that whoever chairs the Governors’ Forum will influence the presidential election,” Amaechi told FT in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

In a report posted by FT on Sunday, he alleged that “What has happened has been engineered to the point where the President and his wife are trying to remove me from office.”

“We are seeing an absence of law and order that can breed anarchy. It seems those at Federal Government level are not interested in democracy, but impunity and authoritarianism. The President needs to check this,” the governor added.

Amaechi also told the FT that he had not decided on his plans for 2015. He said that efforts by some in the PDP leadership to claim that he had lost the governors’ forum vote, despite him obtaining 19 votes to his challenger’s (Jonah Jang of Plateau State) 16, was a concerning sign ahead of 2015.

“If they can accept 16 over 19, people should be worried,” Amaechi said.
