Maradona offered $100,000 to wear Iran shirt

Diego Maradona could be on the end of a considerable windfall, if he accepts a bizarre offer from the Iranian FA, according to Irish Mirror.

The Argentina legend has been offered a reported $100,000 to unveil the new Iran national team shirt in January as the Middle-Eastern nation prepare for the World Cup in Brazil next summer.

However, the offer comes with a catch.

As part of the proposal reported by news agency IRNA, the World Cup winner would also have to wear the Iranian shirt when the Lions take on his native Argentina on June 21.

The game, scheduled for Belo Horizonte, could be the one that secures World Cup progress for the Albiceleste, but ‘el Diego’ is now mulling over the generous proposition that would likely cause uproar in his homeland.

Meanwhile, reports in Argentina claim that  Maradona is being considered as a replacement for under-pressure Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas.

The extravagant 53 year-old was last involved in management at UAE side Al-Wasl, but has enjoyed little success in a coaching career in which the highlight was a quarter-final exit from the 2010 World Cup.

Clarín, the largest newspaper in Argentina, claims that Maradona “is one of the candidates” to take over from Andre Villas-Boas at White Hart Lane.

However, the prospect of a shrewd businessman like Daniel Levy plumping for as extreme and divisive a character as ‘el Diego’ is very unlikely and the former Napoli, Boca Juniors and Barcelona star will be forced to make his money through other ways.
