Jonathan is most maligned, distracted Nigerian President”

The Peoples Democratic Party on Thursday said President Goodluck Jonathan is facing some difficulties in the hands of critics who continue to attack him.

The party said despite the “humble” posture as well as his commitment, the President is always at the receiving end of widespread criticism from some Nigerians.

It said despite the liberal disposition of the President, “facts” were emerging that some Nigerians have been maliciously launching attacks on his government for selfish political gains.

The party wrote on its Facebook page that the calculated attacks on Jonathan had made him the “most maligned and most distracted President” Nigeria has ever had.

It said in spite of the widespread criticisms, the President will not be swayed from delivering on good governance.

“March on, Mr. President, the most maligned, the most distracted, yet, the most humble, focused, competent and the most committed President in changing the fortunes of the nation.

“Facts are emerging and facts shall continue to vindicate the just. No amount of blackmail is capable of halting the march to transformation. Go on, Mr. President, Nigerians are solidly behind you!” the message on the PDP Facebook page reads.

However, some Nigerians have challenged the ruling party over its perception of the way and manner some Nigerians severely criticise the President.

According to them, the failure of the Jonathan administration in delivering on good governance as well as the widespread corruption in the polity were some of the reasons why the President is usually an object of anger, especially on social media.

One Isma’il Muhammad explained that he empathises with Jonathan and the PDP family on what he described as “painful and hot criticisms” of the President.

He adds, “I must sincerely respect GEJ for his endurance over painful and hot criticisms against him but I must, at the same time, express my dislike to the widespread corruption that has become the order of the day and worsening in his regime. So fighting corruption to its barest minimum and insecurity issue will be my major measurement in re-electing him into office.”

Writing on the Facebook page of the PDP, one Jimoh Sherifat-Olabisi said she would not be pleased with the Jonathan Presidency until he (Jonathan)  provides the enabling environment that allows job creation in the country.

“I will only be pleased with the government that will make my life better; that is get me a job or capital to run a business. This regime is yet to do that. I will only support the regime that changes my life and that of my family,” she wrote.

Another respondent, Fadaoluwole Radewo, accused the PDP of deceiving Nigerians and the President with their Facebook post and dismissed the party’s claim that Jonathan was discharging his duties to the expectation of the masses.

“It is a pity that the National Working Committee of the PDP is deceiving this gentleman (Jonathan). Honestly I am totally not happy with PDP and GEJ. No physical, economical, or spiritual good effect of GEJ policy where I am,” Radewo added.

Also one Loya Ayaka said, “Mr. President, be a patriotic citizen of this country that is full of natural resources but poorly managed. You (Jonathan) have allowed sycophants to inject what is not supposed to be injected into your transformation agenda and that is corruption.

“Corruption is at its soaring rate in Nigeria. Employment opportunities are only available for the elite at the detriment of the poor. It is high time you started solving some of these national problems.”

For Sa’adu Ahmadu Ribadu it is not too late for the President to win over the hearts of Nigerians. “Oga President, it is still not too late, shame the devil, be patriotic by doing the right thing. Remember every good leader leaves behind a good legacy. That legacy is their reward, not amassing wealth blindly. There is a saying that ‘if a road is good you can follow it twice.’ Make your road good sir, so that we follow it twice. Wish you God’s guidance,” Ribadu said.

But one Boyce Macjaja asked Nigerians not to disrespect the office of the President in spite of the challenges being faced.

“All positions are ordained by the almighty God and therefore when you speak ill of such positions or men in such positions you speak against your maker (God). So let us be careful,” Macjaja wrote on the party’s Facebook page.
