Boko Haram Chief Is A Video Tiger – Army

The military insisted that the campaign has heavily damaged the Islamist insurgents. In a video obtained by AFP on Tuesday, Shekau said soldiers have at times “turned and ran” when facing Islamist fighters and rejected military boasting about the success of the operation.
“We consider it as empty propoganda,” defence spokesman Brigadier General Chris Olukolade said of the video.
“To the best of our understanding, at the moment the insurgents are in disarray. They are on the run and so many of them have been captured,” he told AFP.
He declined to provide figures of those captured or killed in the operation launched on May 15 after President Goodluck Jonathan declared a state of emergency in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe, three northeastern states considered Boko Haram strongholds.
Shekau’s whereabouts, which cannot be determined in the video, remain unknown.
“I don’t know his location but I know that intelligence is trailing him,” Olukolade said.
Shekau called on like-minded Islamists in countries including Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq to join the fight to create an Islamic state in Nigeria.
Olukolade suggested the plea for foreign assistance implied weakness. “If they are still firmly on ground why does he need help?”
The United States and analysts have voiced concern over the prospect of widespread civilian casualties during the operation, with Nigeria’s military having been accused of massive abuses in the past.
Olukolade told AFP he has seen no credible evidence of soldier misconduct in the offensive.
With the military having cut mobile phone service in much of the northeast and access to remote locations restricted, rival claims about the conflict have been impossible to verify.
Olukolade said that air strikes used so far have primarily included covering fire for ground troops tasked with storming Boko Haram camps.
The military has claimed the destruction of several such camps, primarily in Borno state, Boko Haram’s traditional base.
Boko Haram has waged its insurgency since 2009, with an estimated 3,600 lives lost, including killings by the security forces.
The group has pushed for the creation of an Islamic state in Africa’s most populous nation and largest oil producer, though its demands have repeatedly shifted.

Meet the married couples who never have sex but insist they're happy

When married couples live like brother and sister. No sex for years and they insist they are happy. Are they deluded - or just honest? Read and tell us what you think...

Most evenings, with their little girl safely tucked up in bed, Charlotte and Chris Everiss (pictured right) enjoy a kiss and a cuddle on the sofa in front of the television.
Happily married for a decade, the couple cannot bear to even imagine their lives without one another. Yet, astonishingly, they haven’t made love for more than two years.
Both insist that their marriage, which followed a two-year courtship after meeting on a dating website, is stronger than most. It’s just that sex, they say, is not important to their happiness.

‘We still turn each other on but we don’t want to take it any further,’ says Charlotte. ‘We don’t have the time or the energy.

‘I find it hard switching off knowing that our four-year-old, Addison, is in the next bedroom. I think if Chris really missed sex he would tell me, or I’d catch him watching porn on the internet as a substitute.

‘But he doesn’t seem to want to go back to having sex, either.
‘We sound like Darby and Joan, I know - even though I’m only 34 and Chris is 40 - but that, to us, is contentment.'

Charlotte and Chris, it seems, aren’t the only ones whose sex life has dwindled to nothing. A recent survey estimated that 15 to 20 per cent of couples have sexless relationships - defined by experts as making love fewer than ten times a year - while around 5 per cent go without altogether.

Actress Helen Mirren spoke for many of these couples earlier this year when she said: ‘I think the power of partnership in marriage is under-recognised in our society. That’s what makes marriages  work, not sex.’

In a sex-obsessed society, where everyone - young, old, male and female - seems to be boasting of how many times a week they ‘do it’, it may come as a relief to many that couples like Charlotte and Chris are happy to admit that sex plays no part in their marriages at all.

Most couples who find themselves at a point where sexual intimacy has died tend to confide their predicament to no one at all. But today three brave couples reveal to Femail how they have learned to live contented lives without sex.

You don’t need a degree in psychology to work out why Charlotte, a social media consultant from Great Wyrley, Staffordshire - who in the early years of her marriage made love to her husband three times a week - may have problems surrounding sex.

Three years ago, when their daughter was 18 months old, Charlotte almost died after an ectopic pregnancy resulted in her having a partial hysterectomy during a six-hour operation. Since then, she and Chris have made love only once, around ten months after her loss, an encounter from which she derived no pleasure.

Chris is understanding about her aversion to sex. ‘It can be hard knowing that our cuddles will never lead to anything more intimate,’ he says. ‘Charlotte is a gorgeous woman and I’m still very attracted to her, but she nearly died and I count my blessings every day that she’s even still here.’

‘I have an hour-long commute at either end of my working day so, to be honest, most of the time I’m too tired for sex anyway.’

Chris, a digital marketing manager, says he doesn’t discuss with friends the absence of sex from his marriage, but believes it is more common than people admit.
‘I don’t know that we’re all that different from other couples, we’re just more open about it,’ he says.

In all other respects, the Everisses have an enviable lifestyle. They live in a beautiful, four-bedroom detached home, have a Mini Cooper convertible and a VW Golf parked on the driveway, and enjoy several foreign holidays a year.

Tracey Dowler, 42, (pictured above with husband) spent several months worrying that husband Julian, 55, didn’t want to make love to her because he was attracted to other women. But she has now accepted that the stress of his demanding job as director of a motor mechanical and haulage company is the reason they no longer have sex.

And, while she admits there have been times when she has felt like walking out of their immaculate, three-bedroom semi-detached home in Rugby, Warwickshire, over the lack of intimacy, Tracey values other aspects of their marriage too highly.

‘We got married in 2007 after only knowing each other for six months, so it was pretty whirlwind,’ says Tracey, a wedding fair organiser. ‘When we were dating, we’d have sex up to three times a night, which was wonderful, but after the wedding we only made love once or twice a week. We started going months between encounters and now we haven’t made love for well over a year.’

Tracey still feels very attracted to her husband, and he says the same of her. The couple are loving in other ways, holding hands when they go out together, kissing one another goodnight before going to sleep and saying “I love you” at the end of telephone conversations.

But Julian has 40 employees under him and says his job has become far more demanding in the years since their wedding. He gets up at 4am to start work at 5am, puts in a 12-hour day and, as he is on 24-hour call, his phone often rings several times during the night with drivers needing advice.
Weekends are no more relaxing as Julian also runs a photography business, which he is hoping will take off enough for him to concentrate on it full time.

They are both keen to have a family together. They’ve had IVF and plan to have another round of it in August.

‘We talk about rekindling our love life but never seem to get around to it,’ says Julian. ‘We had a weekend away at a country hotel a couple of weeks ago and I was so exhausted I spent most of the time asleep.’

Julian regards Tracey as his best friend and soulmate - a fact common, it seems, to many couples enduring sexless marriages - and believes that once he retires they will be able to rekindle some semblance of romance.

Once a couple gets out of the habit of having sex, however, this can be easier said than done.
‘Couples who don’t make love start living like brother and sister or friends and get out of the habit of seeing one another in a sexual way,’ says Relate counsellor Paula Hall.

‘If both partners want to reintroduce sex, we encourage them to do so slowly, learning how to be sensual with each other and gradually building up to intercourse.’

Okorocha: I Didn’t Borrow N100bn

Imo State Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha,  Wednesday dismissed allegations in some quarters that he took a loan of N100 billion to finance some capital projects in the state. He described the allegations as mere cheap propaganda by those uncomfortable with his rescue mission programme anchored on transparency and accountability.

Okorocha, who spoke while giving account of his stewardship for the past two years to the people of the state, explained that his administration which met a decayed and neglected state had through efficient and judicious utilisation of available resources, repositioned the state.
With a graphic detail of revenues and expenditures, the governor revealed that his administration, shortly after inception, discovered a hidden N551 million in a bank in Aba, Abia State.

The governor, who described himself as a child of circumstances divinely sent to rescue the people, said apart from meeting a council fund of N2 billion from June 2011, the total amount which accrued to the state from the federation account between January to December, 2012 was N84 billion.

An Appeal To Nigerian Universities, Polytechnics And NECO, SSCE Exam Date.

A speech made by Azemohor Frank yesterday. I appeal to Nigerian universities and polytechnics to please note that the National Examination Council’s Senior Secondary Certificate Examination for 2013 will start on Saturday, June 1 and end on July 12 so that their post-UTME test dates won’t clash with the NECO exam as was the case last year. Secondly, I will want all exam committees of the various institutions of higher learning in the country to please meet and fix different days so that already confused students will have better time to travel from one school to another.

Ladies Think Twice Before You Let Go Of Your Guy

Ask yourself, is it worth it? Is another guy worth losing the one you have now? Is flirting with another guy worth seeing your guy feel devastated? Is seeing another guy worth seeing your guy cry? Is cheating on your guy with another guy worth making him feel hurt? Is lying to your guy about the other guy worth the disappointment from him when he'll hear it from other people? Is leaving the guy who's always been there for you for some guy who ruined the relationship worth it?

Now think of where you are going, is it gonna be a bed of roses? Won’t you face misunderstandings which might even be terrible than the ones you want to escape, is the guy you are gonna date a heaven sent angel that he is perfect in everything? Are you really determined that you won’t regret?
Come on you guys built this relationship for so long now why quitting it? Don’t you think there are very many single ladies out there who are willing to replace you? Think about it before you move on.

Democracy Day: NLC Score President Low

As the country celebrates another Democracy Day, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has said that the federal government has not done enough to alleviate the poverty and suffering of Nigerians.

This was contained in a communique issued at the end of the NLC’s National Executive Council meeting yesterday in Abuja and signed by its national president, Abdulwaheed Omar.

Omar said, “Although, the economy is said to have recorded a growth rate of about 7 per cent, it has created few or no jobs, leading to an all-time high unemployment records. Whereas official figures put unemployment rate at 24 per cent, there are indicators to believe that the actual estimate could be as high as 60 per cent or higher. Nearly all of our employable youths remain unemployed, constituting a veritable army of the hungry, disillusioned and angry with great potential for undermining the peace and security of the nation.”

“Critical infrastructure continue to decay just as power generation continues to dip. Government’s promises in the power sector, especially in power generation and distribution have been observed in the breach. Non-budgetary provision for power supply has worsened the power situation, in spite of unjustifiable high tariffs.”

The NLC president also decried the rising communal and sectarian violence across the country, saying that the development contributes in no small way to undermining the national productive industrial and agricultural capacity.

According to him, last year’s floods and potential for more floods this year have probable effect of undermining food security.

According to Omar, government still has a great role to play in reversing this trend. It cannot afford the luxury of leaving the economy to market forces, as no reasonable government does that, he said. There must be an affirmative declaration by government to create jobs, he added.

The communiqué reads in part: “Similarly, government is invited to intervene in critical industries (by way of intervention funds and policy) to sustain and create jobs.

“Government should ensure there is adequate power supply to meet national needs through the design and execution of a seamless transition in its power reform programme.”

Speaking on the insecurity in the country, he said: “Rising security challenges continues to threaten the sovereignty, unity and productive capacity of the country. Congress is concerned not only by the extent of the waste of human lives but by the audacity and viciousness of the perpetrators.

“Whereas, poverty, disease, illiteracy and indoctrination cannot be divorced from these serial acts of violence, the immediate trigger are the injustices inherent in our electoral process, distribution of wealth, corruption, unemployment, impunity and bad governance.”

The labour union however re-affirmed its belief in the in-alienability, inviolability and sovereignty of Nigeria.

The NLC president also said in spite of the law on the new minimum wage, the signed agreements with state governments and the passage of time, some state governments have not fully implemented the minimum wage law.

He added that, in most states, teachers and local government workers are the victims. “Congress considers this not only an affront to the law but an assault on workers and accordingly condemns this selective implementation of the law. Congress will mobilise workers in the affected states to compel governments to pay. Meanwhile, it gives its unalloyed support to the proposed action on the matter by members of the National Union of Teachers,” he said

On the controversies trailing the election in the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, the NLC president said it is regrettable that the governors under the NGF cannot organise themselves in a simple democratic process.

He said: “Congress therefore refuses to believe that governors who are themselves beneficiaries of supposedly credible elections cannot organise a simple election among themselves, a class of 36. This presupposes that something fundamentally must have gone wrong somewhere. Whatever it is, the governors and their fellow travellers in power should quickly fix it. As critical custodians of the people’s mandate and grand beneficiaries of our democracy, there are certain things governors must not be seen to be doing.

“We at the Congress irrevocably stand for certain values which we will not compromise for anything. We are opposed to impunity at all levels and the undermining of national security and unity. We have respect for process and its outcome. We stand for justice.

“In the light of the foregoing, we call on our governors to: create value around as well as restore dignity to their office; get back to work instead of unnecessarily overheating the polity; not put in jeopardy our hard-earned democracy; respect the process and outcome of their election.”

Democracy Day: Imoke, Chime, Ajimobi call for unity

Abuja – Govs. Liyel Imoke of Cross River, Sullivan Chime of Enugu and Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State on Wednesday called for unity among Nigerians to move the nation forward.

The  governors, in their goodwill messages on the 14th Democracy Day celebration, noted that Nigeria as a nation, has come to stay as one entity.

In a broadcast to mark the Democracy Day in Calabar, Imoke said that democracy offered hope of achieving and strengthening the democratic environment that all Nigerians aspire to live in.

According to him, the democratic successes achieved in the past 14 years of democracy, have exceeded expectations.

“In 1999, when this democratic dispensation commenced, our ideals and ambitions were indeed lofty and to some, even unattainable.

“This achievement demands collective commendation for every facet of our society as detractors only served to spur us on towards reaching out desired result.

“Consequently, the results of our collective efforts have become evident and tangible through socio-economic development and growth,’’ he said.

He urged the people of Cross River to consolidate the democracy and continue to instil and observe the essential democratic tenets for a more prosperous State.

In Enugu, Chime urged politicians to use the occasion of the 14th democracy rule of the country to unite to ensure quality leadership for the people.

The goodwill message signed by his Press Secretary, Mr Chukwudi  Achife, on Wednesday, urged all Nigerians to continue to pursue ideals and actions that would strengthen rather than undermine democracy.

He said that unity, especially among the political class, would help in sustaining the confidence and respect of the people, adding that rancour was a deterrent to development and sustenance of democracy.

Chime congratulated Nigeria for its 14 years of uninterrupted democracy, noting that it had proved commitment and zeal to make things right.

“The political class should continue to work in unity to sustain the confidence and respect of the people,’’ he said

The governor noted that in spite of the challenges facing the country, it had remained strong.

He called on the people to support government’s transformation programmes aimed at driving the nation forward.

In Ibadan, Gov. Abiola Ajimobi, while calling for unity, pledged to achieve the best of all he had in stock for the people.

Ajimobi said that his administration had recorded tremendous feats from the urban renewal programme, which was aimed at transforming the state.

He said that the statement government had within the last two years, constructed roads across the statae,  likewise making the Eleyele-Dugbe road a dual carriage way as well as  Challenge-Toll Gate road, Challenge-New garage roads and others at Oyo, Iseyin and Ogbomoso.

The governor said that the government had constructed bridges such as the Mokola Fly-over, the restoration bridge along secretariat-bodija-Agbowo road  and built two new modern motor parks at Iwo road and Podo.

He disclosed that his administration had changed the face of transportation in the state with the injection of luxury buses and tricycles into the Urban Mass Transit scheme.

Ajimobi said that the state government, under the Urban Renewal Programme, had built neighbourhood markets at strategic places as well as beautified  places like Iwo road, Molete, Mokola and Agodi-Gate.

“The one-time dirtiest city in Africa is now getting new accolade as one of the neatest in Nigeria, having rid the streets of trading.

“It is a task that all of us must do, no matter how discomforting it may be at the initial stages,’’ he said.

In Ilorin, the immediate past acting Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Kawu Baraje, described democratic rule as the best system of government across the world, in spite of all odds.

In a statement, Baraje congratulated Nigerians on the Democracy Day celebration, stressing that what the people needed was patience and more understanding with the leaders.

According to him, democracy is the only system of government that allows the citizens to voice out their views without interference.

He, however, urged those in positions of responsibility particularly politicians, to always have the fear of God and redeem their electioneering pledges.

In Abeokuta, the PDP Chairman in Ogun, Mr Bayo Dayo, described the journey as 14 years of challenges and 14 years of successes.

He noted that over this period, Nigeria had been able to maintain political stability as well as created and strengthened critical institutions to support democratic governance.

Dayo recalled that a number of incidents capable of truncating the democratic process but Nigerians stood firm to ensure the survival of democracy in Nigeria.

”Nigerians have proven that if they want, they can come together to safeguard their unity and common interest as a people.

”By surviving the incidents, Nigeria’s democracy has come a long way and it is gradually becoming more institutionalised,” he said.

Igbo People Are Killing Nollywood With Tribalism ––Actress Halima Abubakar

One actress who really struggled for several years in Nollywood before she eventually got her big break is Halima Abubakar. She saw the challenges, faced them and eventually conquered.

But she said it no longer easy for up and coming actresses who are gifted but are not being allowed to prove themselves in the industry due to the high level tribalism of the Igbos who control the industry and are now making themselves lord over others. See her complains below...
“I have experienced tribalism, I know people would say it is a lie, but that is the truth. Why have those from a particular group not reached out to people who are not specifically from their areas?

“I have worked with a lot of Igbos, my marketer is Igbo, I have worked with a lot of them and I know those I have not worked with, I have not seen the right roles for me yet, but I believe they will come.

"But how about others, who are independently shooting movies, does that mean those are the only set of actors in Nollywood? I am not saying they should give me roles, but there are people who want to see fresh faces. We need to give others opportunity to showcase their talents.

“I am saying, stop tribalism and bring everyone under the umbrella of AGN,” Halima insisted.
